Rosemarie (Rita) Girouard, 91, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, while in hospice at Accent care in Milton, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family, including her two sons.

Rosemarie was the beloved daughter of the late James P. and Mary (Camerato) Rita. She has 2 sisters: Jean Santacroce of Newton, and her late husband Biddy; Alberta Standel of Milford, NH,and her husband Harry. And a brother: the late Jimmy Rita of North Cambridge, and his late wife, Alice. She graduated from Belmont High School and later married the late S/Sgt Albert Girouard. Together, they built a family, and Rosemarie became beloved and devoted mother to her three sons: the late Steven Girouard, who is survived by his fiancé, Terry Conway; James Girouard of Brownsville, Vermont, and his late wife, Lynn Girouard; and David Girouard of S. Reading, Vermont and his life partner, Crystal Millard.

She was a cherished Nana of three grandchildren: Dr. Desiree Neal-Thill and Nathan Thill; Michael Girouard and his partner Matt Rousseau, Robert Girouard, affectionately known as "Bobby" and his wife, Jessica; and Kaylie Millard.

Rosemarie was also the proud great grandmother to Karissa, Jaelyn and Donovan Neal.
She also leaves behind her beloved fur babies, Ally, Mila and Luka, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends.

Rosemarie began her career as a lunchroom monitor in Newton School before joining the dining services staff at Boston University in 1971. She retired in 2020, but not before becoming known as the " Queen of the Castle," a title she wore with great pride.

More than anything, Rosemarie loved life. A celebration of any kind was never far from her mind, especially when it came to birthdays. Her wonderful sense of humor and contagious laughter brought joy to those around her, and she had a special way of making every gathering more fun simply by being there.

Rosemarie also had an incredibly generous heart and found great joy in giving to others. Over the years, she donated to numerous organizations and cherished being able to buy things for those she loved or simply give them something of her own. Nothing made her happier than seeing someone enjoy a gift from her.

And, of course, Rosemarie loved to shop. Among her favorite places were The Paper Store, BJs, Home Goods and perhaps most importantly, QVC.

As the beloved matriarch of her family, Rosemarie will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Her laughter, generosity, love of celebrations, and unforgettable personality will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington st. Newton, MA 02458, on September 2, 2026, at 10:30a.m. All are welcome to attend the Mass and the hour-long visitation prior from 9:30am to 10:30am. No flowers please. 

Following the Mass, we will proceed to North Cambridge cemetery for burial.

Rosemarie's family takes comfort in knowing that although she may no longer be with us, her spirit, laughter, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
