Michael C. “Mike” Moroco of Newton, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Friday, February 20, 2026. He was 81.

Mike was born June 28, 1944, to Ann (Daniello) and John Moroco, the youngest of their four children. He graduated from Farrell High School, where he played football and was an active thespian.

Mike married Connie Hood on January 7, 1984. They lived together in Sharon, Pennsylvania for 38 years, until they moved to Newton, Massachusetts in 2022. They shared a love for baseball, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and spending time with friends, especially at Billy’s Black and Gold.

Mike began his career in auto sales and management in the late 1970s, working at various car dealerships across the Shenango Valley. He began working with John Apostolakis in 2001 at Shenango Honda, Hermitage, until he retired in 2020.

He was a dedicated softball and baseball coach throughout his life. He coached the first Shenango Valley area women’s softball team (Bialko’s) to a Pennsylvania State Championship in 1983 and helped take the Kennedy Catholic Golden Eagles high school baseball team to the playoffs in 2012.

Mike was enthusiastic about helping connect the people and organizations he was a part of with the surrounding community. Among them, he managed the Kennedy Eagles Organization from 1999-2007, running countless fundraisers for Catholic school sports.

Through his life, Mike was an active member of his churches, first at Our Lady of Fatima, Farrell, and then at St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon, as a member of the choir and a Eucharistic Minister. After moving to Newton, Mike continued his service at Sacred Heart Church and with the Knights of Columbus, creating a community of faith both in and outside the parish.

Among all his pursuits, Mike’s family was the most important thing in his life. His stories made it evident how much he cherished the time he spent with those he loved. Like tall tales, it is almost hard to believe each and every one, but Mike Moroco was larger than life. To know him was to love him, and those he loved became his family.

Mike is survived by his wife Connie, Newton; his daughter, Jamie Moroco, her husband Mark Zimmerman, and their daughter, Annie, Brookline, MA; his son, Michael Moroco, his wife Kelly, and their son, Michael Angelo, North Andover, MA; his brother, John Moroco and his wife Nancy, West Middlesex, PA; his sister-in-law, Judy Moroco, Del Ray Beach, FL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Annette Gessler and her husband Jim; and his brother, Philip Moroco.

A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 1321 Centre St, Newton, MA 02459, on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 12:00 pm, followed by a gathering for friends and family in the Bishop MacKenzie Center, located next door to the church.

A celebration of life will be held at the Sharon Elks Lodge, 260 E Connelly Blvd, Sharon, PA 16146, on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 1:00 pm.
