Giovanni Rufo

Giovanni Rufo, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Massachusetts.
Giovanni was born on November 5, 1933, in San Donato Val di Comino, Italy, to Donato Rufo and Cesidia (Gentile) Rufo. He was one of five siblings: Donato and Cesidio, both deceased; and Mela Leone and Nino Rufo, who survive him.
On January 15, 1959, Giovanni married the love of his life, Antonia (Baccari) Rufo. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around their family. Giovanni worked as a stone mason in Italy and France before immigrating with his family to the United States in Newton, Massachusetts, in July 1970. He continued his career as a stone mason and established a business in masonry in 1982, taking great pride in his work and providing for his loved ones. Giovanni immense passion was playing the guitar and singing since he was a child.
Giovanni was a loving, caring, and devoted family man. He cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and his family was the greatest source of joy and pride throughout his life. He will be remembered for his hard work, strength, generosity, and the love he showed to those around him.
Giovanni is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Antonia, and their children and grandchildren:
His son, Massimo, and his wife, Mary, and their children, Angela, Michael and his wife, Kathleen, and their son Thomas, John and his wife Lisa, and Marina.
His son, Adamo, and his wife, Carol, and their children, Franchesca Carducci and her husband, Daniel Carducci, and their four children, Capriana, Damon, Cameron, and Julian. Niko Rufo, and his wife, Hannah Rufo, and their children, Leo and Chase.
His son, Marco, and his wife, Paula, and their children, Alexia and Olivia.
His son, Ivo, and his wife, Marisa, and their children, Christian, Adrian, and Alex.
Giovanni leaves behind a legacy of love, family, hard work, devotion and joy from his guitar playing and beautiful singing voice. His memory will live on in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Giovanni on Saturday, September 5 at 10:30am in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St, Newton. His burial will follow at Newton Cemetery. No flowers, please.
