Gerald "Gerry" Joseph Griffin, 88, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and the enduring love of his family and friends.
Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Gerry was the son of Vincent and Mary Griffin and one of eight children in a large Irish family. The values of family, hard work, kindness, and loyalty that shaped his childhood remained with him throughout his life.
Gerry proudly served his country as a veteran before beginning a career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked for more than 30 years. He approached his work with dedication and integrity, earning the respect of those around him.
Above all, Gerry will be remembered for his gentle heart and generous spirit. He possessed a quiet wisdom that drew people to him, and he always made time to listen. Whether someone needed advice, encouragement, or simply a compassionate ear, Gerry was there without judgment. His calm presence and thoughtful guidance touched the lives of many.
An active man throughout his life, Gerry could often be found walking through the city, enjoying the simple pleasure of exploring the neighborhoods he knew so well. He believed in staying busy, appreciating the world around him, and finding joy in everyday moments.
Gerry had a special love for animals that reflected his compassionate nature. Over the years, he welcomed dogs, cats, turtles, and many other pets into his life. Perhaps most notably, he devoted himself to caring for the stray cats that found their way to his backyard. No matter how many arrived, Gerry made sure each one was fed, named, and cared for with the same affection he would have shown any beloved family pet.
Gerry was a devoted father to his two sons, Gerald and Matthew. He carried the heartbreaking loss of his eldest son, Gerald, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 40, with quiet strength. He is lovingly remembered by his son Matthew and daughter-in-law Gina, and by his cherished granddaughters, Elaina and Cora, who brought him great pride and happiness.
Though his family grieves his passing, they find comfort in the example he set through a life marked by kindness, generosity, humility, and unwavering love. His wisdom, gentle nature, and caring heart will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
