David A. Santillo

March 4, 1955 – March 19, 2026

 

NEWTON, MA – David A. Santillo, a respected businessman, devoted father, and cherished grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026. He was 71 years old.

Born on March 4, 1955, to the late George R. and Helen E (Pitts) Santillo, David was a lifelong resident of Newton.

A man of remarkable skill and integrity, he was the proprietor of Dan’s Auto Service in Watertown, where his technical skill and honest counsel earned him the lasting respect of his community. David also took great pride in a career-long partnership with Commonwealth Limousine, maintaining a bond of friendship and professional loyalty that spanned more than 47 years.

David’s passion for hockey lasted a lifetime. As a talented goaltender, he traveled the world to compete in international tournaments, including memorable trips to Russia. He also played with the Boston Bruins Alumni.

His passion for mechanics extended into his leisure time, where he found great joy restoring a Ford Fairlane with his nephew Joe and working on Ford Mustangs alongside his brother, Chris and nephews Chris J. and Justin. He was also a dedicated softball coach, where he spent many years mentoring others in the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Above all, David was a family man. He was the devoted father of Nella A. (Santillo) Alvarez and her husband, Jorge of Sanford, FLA and the proud and loving grandfather to their daughters Sofia and Lucia.

He is survived by his sister Helen E Hamilton, of Sandwich and his brother Christopher G. Santillo and his wife Rena of Framingham and a large loving circle of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

David was predeceased by his seven siblings: George R.,  June A. Vento., Mark A., Steven J., Peter F., Virginia A. Lambert., William J.

Family and friends are honorably invited to attend a funeral mass at Our Lady’s Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St, Newton on Friday April 24, 2026 at 10:30 am. A celebration of David’s life will follow in the lower reception hall of the church.
