
Daji Zhang, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and distinguished engineer, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts. He was 89 years old.
Mr. Zhang was born on February 23, 1936, in Hunan Province, China, to the late Shihong Zhang and Zhenxiang Qu. He pursued his education with determination and excellence, graduating from Central South University in 1961.
Mr. Zhang dedicated more than three decades of his professional life to advancing public health in China. He served as a Senior Engineer at the Tianjin Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where he was widely respected for his technical expertise, integrity, and steadfast commitment to his work. His career reflected a lifelong devotion to the welfare of others and a deep sense of responsibility to his community and family.
In his personal life, Mr. Zhang was known for his thoughtful, steady nature and his skill in practical craftsmanship. He took great pride in working with his hands—building furniture, repairing household items, and contributing to the upkeep of his home. These pursuits spoke to his character: humble, meticulous, and dedicated to creating comfort and stability for those he loved.
Mr. Zhang is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Feng Ting Wang, whom he married in 1968; his two daughters, Yi Zhang, and her husband, Xiangzhong Sun, and Yuan Zhang DeAngelis; and his grandchildren, Andrew Sun and Jasmine Sun. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Frank M. DeAngelis, who passed away on August 27, 2024.
Mr. Zhang will be remembered with deep love and gratitude by his family and all who knew him. His legacy endures in the example he set—of quiet strength, dedication to service, and unwavering devotion to his family.
He will be buried in a private service next to his son-in-law Frank at Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
