Adelard “Malo” Allain, born on October 5th, 1947 to the late Emile and Sophie Allain, passed unexpectedly at the age of 78 on September 7th. Raised in Bouctouche, New Brunswick with his brothers and sisters, Malo immigrated to the United States in the 1960s, where he became a respected Mason in Massachusetts. He met his beloved wife, Marie Colucci, in 1968. The two were married for 57 years. During that time, the couple raised three children and welcomed countless grandchildren into the world.
In life, Malo was well-known for his admirable work-ethic. He took pride in every job he completed, regardless of whether the project was paid or a simple favor for a loved one. Many of the beautiful patios, stairways, and other structures he contributed to remain standing today, due in large part to his meticulous efforts. Just as devoted in his relationships, Malo was an incredible husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Anyone lucky enough to know him would agree that he was unfailing in his devotion to those he loved, never hesitating to sacrifice the metaphorical (or literal) shirt from his back for family and friends. In his youth, his hobbies reflected his Canadian roots; Malo maintained a passion for hockey, playing with friends and teammates for the HABS. He later went on to spend countless hours on the ice with his children and grandchildren, teaching multiple generations to skate. Malo was a man of simple pleasures: he enjoyed nothing more than ending a long day of work by sitting in the sun, listening to George Jones with a hot cup of tea and a newspaper…unless the Red Sox or Bruins were playing, of course.
Malo is survived by his cherished wife, Marie, daughter Lisa (Allain) Aviles and her wife Kristin Aviles, daughter Paula Allain and her partner Robert Barker, daughter Cindy (Allain) Gentile and her husband Michael Gentile, brother Laurie Allain of Canada, brother Tim Allain and his wife Marie-Paule Allain of Canada, sister Antoinette (Allain) Despres and her husband Raoul Despres of Canada, sister Yvette (Allain) Cormier and her husband Willy Cormier of Canada, sister Aurella (Allain) Caissie, married to her late husband Ronnie Caissie of Canada, and brother Paul-Emile Allain and his wife Maria Allain of Canada. Malo is also survived by his grandchildren, George, Kenneth, Marissa, Danielle, Alexis, Christopher, Patrick, Sophia, and Jessica, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Malo’s family welcomes those who wish to pay their respects on Saturday, September 12th, 2026. Visiting hours will begin at 3:00pm at the Andrew J. Magni and Son Funeral Home at 365 Watertown Street in Newton, MA 02458, concluding with prayers at 5:00pm. Following the services, the family will be hosting a bereavement dinner at the Chateau Restaurant located at 195 School Street in Waltham, MA 02451. All are welcome to attend. A private burial will be held at a later date.
