Thomas A. Melideo (1939-2024)
Thomas A. Melideo of West Yarmouth, MA, and Englewood, FL passed away in Englewood, FL on December 21, 2024. He was born in Newton, MA in 1939 to Louise P. (Visco) Melideo and Victor Melideo. Tom attended Newton Public Schools and graduated from Newton High School in 1957. He later received an Associate Degree in Business. After proudly serving in the Navy until his honorable discharge in 1962, he worked various jobs and took road trips around the country. In 1966, he met his future wife, Beverly West. They were married on April 1, 1967, and expanded the family with three daughters before the end of 1970. Tom worked as a payroll supervisor and bookkeeper while he and Beverly created a loving home for their daughters and daughters’ friends whom they treated like family from elementary school through college. Whether asked to host sleepovers, exchange students, or college friends, Tom always shrugged and said “Why not?”
Tom enjoyed traveling and vacationing throughout his life and passed this love for adventure on to his daughters. Together with his family, he enjoyed annual family camping trips to Point Sebago, Maine, and road trips to Florida, D.C., Nova Scotia, Niagara Falls, and of course international adventures to Italy, Greece, Ireland, Mexico, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, and Taiwan. For many years, Tom and Beverly also owned a camper van and traveled together to nearly all of the States. In retirement, Tom became a snowbird, spending his summers on Cape Cod and his winters in Arizona and later in Florida.
Known for his hospitality, Tom was always ready to throw a party. He could be found manning the grill for the annual summer birthday party for his seven grandchildren and many grandnieces and grandnephews, or preparing the steamer for a clambake and lobster party for neighbors in Arizona and Florida. The summers at Cape Cod with Tom, including his Fourth of July parties and lobster clambakes, will forever be cherished memories.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Victor Melideo, his parents-in-law, Julia and Bill West, his brother, Robert, and his brother-in-law, Bill West II. Tom is survived by his wife, Beverly Melideo, his daughters, Susan Boyer (Galen), Jean Melideo (Hiroyuki), Nancy Caira (Jim), his grandchildren, Alisa, Deirdre, Nolan, TJ, Koki, Victor, and Sana, his sisters, Mary Peters (Rick) and Patricia Doherty (Paul), his brothers and sisters in -law, Steve, Joan, Jack, Suki, and Angela as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A wake will be held at Andrew J Magni and Son Funeral Home at 365 Watertown St., Newton, MA 02458 on June 19, 2025, from 9 am to 10:30 am. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Church at 573 Washington St., Newton, MA 02458 on June 19, 2025, at 11 am. Tom will be buried at the National Cemetery in Bourne on June 20, 2025, at 1:45 pm.
