Nunzio Joseph Piselli died peacefully in the comfort of his home and family on December 18, 2021.


He is survived by his devoted daughter Barbara Piselli and son-in-law Robert Bontempo of Middleton. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Olinda (Nardone) Piselli, mother Mary Piselli, father Vincenzo Piselli and brother Dominic Piselli.  He is also survived by his brother James Piselli.  


Born in 1926, Nunzio made Newton his home for 95 years. He worked for the City of Newton for 38 years, retiring in 1990 but continuing to work part-time there until he was 89 years old. He was also the Mayoral Appointee to the Newton Retirement Board for 23 years and served as its Chair for many of those years.


Nunzio was an avid reader, instrumental in establishing the Newton Book Shed providing many with free access to books.  Nunzio enjoyed golf, the Patriots, fixing things, puttering around his workshop and woodworking; he is known to many happy recipients for his trains, reindeer, puzzles, sleighs and other surprises.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his many trips to Italy with Barbara and Bobby.


Nunzio served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII.  


In lieu of flowers and at Nunzio’s request, donations in his memory may be made to the Mass General Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, 2014 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02462.

Visiting hours in the funeral home on Tuesday, 12/21 from 4-6pm and again Wednesday morning at 9:30AM before proceeding to St. John the Evangelist Church, 9 Glen Rd, Wellesley Hills for an 11AM Funeral Mass. Burial to follow in Newton Cemetery.

Per order of the City of Newton, masks will be required, regardless of vaccination status, in the funeral home.
