Vettraino (De Santis) Ida, passed peacefully at home on May 25, 2024.


She was the beloved wife of the late Domenico Vettraino of Newton; devoted mother of Davide & Gina Vettraino of Woburn and Daniel & Katherine Vettraino of Needham. Dedicated sister of Giosina Germani; Antonio De Santis; Elena Santosuosso, and pre-deceased by; Gino De Santis, Virgilio De Santis and Franco De Santis.  Devoted grandmother to Matthew, Amelia, Ava, Alaina, and William Vettraino. Sister-in-law of Enzo Vettraino and pre-deceased by; Lidia Riccardi, Maddalena D’agostino, Amelia Rosario, of Italy.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.


Ida was born in Arce, Italy, the daughter of Alfonso De Santis and Maria Marzilli.  She grew up on her parent’s farm in Italy and later worked in manufacturing in Paris, France.  When she immigrated to the US, she followed her true passion, children, and became a crossing guard working for the City of Newton. She was a devout Catholic, an enthusiastic gardener, incredible baker and cook. She appreciated hosting holiday gatherings, enjoyed her grandchildren, and looked forward to her summer trips back to Italy.


The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Good Shepherd Care Center and Springwell for their dedication and compassionate care. 


Relatives and friends are invited to attend the wake in the back of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, 573 Washington St, Newton, MA 02458, on Friday, May 31, at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 10:30 AM.  Interment at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut St, Newton, MA 02459.  No flowers please, if you would like to honor her, please send donations to: Good Shepherd Community Care, 160 Wells Avenue, Newton, MA 02459 Phone (617) 969-6130 Fax (617) 928-1450 or
