Catherine Mary (Howley) Carr, aged 90, passed peacefully away at Newton-Wellesley Hospital on November 5, 2023, following a period of declining health.
She was the devoted wife of the late Errold “Scotty” Carr, loving mother of Stephen, Gayle (and husband Bob), David, Bonnie (and husband Peter), and Step-daughter Donna; caring grandmother to Robbie and Victoria, and much loved Aunt to Susan and Diane and great aunt to Samantha and the late Amy. She was particularly close to her late brother David Howley.
Catherine was born in Newton, and attended Newton High School. She spent many happy years growing up at the family house on Parker Street, and despite wartime restrictions, enjoying the company of siblings David and Marie. The Parker Street area was developed by her father, and a nearby street, Howley Ave, still bears the family name. In these years she developed a lifelong love of movies, and stayed an expert on films and stars throughout her life.
Many of Catherine’s adult years were spent with her husband, Scott, a U.S. Navy veteran who served in WWII. They both worked in apartment management in Jamaica Plain. In her later years Catherine lived at the Golda Meir house in Auburndale, where she was a well known for her warmth, sharp memory, and frequently-escaping cat Shilo. She enjoyed visiting and being visited by her family, and particularly looked forward to the annual vacation with them to Hampton Beach. Catherine lived a long and interesting life, loved good conversation, and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
