On the morning of November 3, 2023, Carmela Franchi passed away peacefully in her home. She was 95 years old.

 

Carmela was born on July 13, 1928 in Atina, Frosinone, Italy a daughter of the late Filomena and Antonio Mancini. She spent the first nineteen years of her life there before marrying Antonio G. Franchi on October 2, 1947. At that time she immigrated to the United States and made her home in Newton, MA, raising her family there.

 

A long time member of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, she volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Bereavement Group for many years, often visiting parishioners at home, offering Communion and spiritual companionship. She was an avid gardener, generously sharing the fruits of her harvest with family and friends.

 

She is predeceased by her husband, Antonio “Jerry”, her beloved son Gerard, sisters Anita Visocchi of Windsor, Ontario and Assunta Liegghio of Toronto, Ontario.

 

She leaves her children, Giovanna of Boston, Robert and his wife Joanne of Newton, Judy of Peabody, daughter-in-law Nicole of Waltham, grandchildren Robert and his wife Rachel, Rebecca and her husband Pat Menton, Elizabeth, Gina and Stephanie, great grandchildren Ava, Robert, Julian, Madeline, Isabel and Grace, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves a sister, Maria Pescosolido in Rome, Italy.

 

Visiting hours for Carmela will be at the Andrew J. Magni & Son Funeral Home, 365 Watertown Street (Rt. 16), Newton on Monday November 6th from 4-8 and Tuesday morning at 9 before leaving in procession to Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton, where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am. Burial will follow at the Newton Cemetery.
