MAGNI, Andrew J., age 90, July 21, 2022
Andy passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Serafina (Rossi); his children Louise, Maria Leo & her husband Flavio, and Arthur; his grandchildren Raffaele, Marco, Stella & Jesse; his sister Jennie DeVito & her husband Alfonso; his brother Anthony; and many loving nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his eldest son, Andrew P.; his parents Antonio Magni & Maria (Pescosolido); and several siblings.
A life-long resident of the Nonantum village of Newton. He was a former Ward 1 Newton City Councilor, where he served for 14 years. He founded the Andrew J. Magni Funeral Home in 1971, and directed funerals for over 45 years. He served in the US Army as a Corporal in Korea. Andy was always involved in the community and was a member of the American Legion Post 440, as well as the Sons of Italy and the St Mary of Carmen Society. He enjoyed being part of his family’s business, Magni Bakery, and was an usher at Our Lady’s Church for decades. He loved playing cards with friends and helping others.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 10:30AM in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St., Newton. Burial will be private. No flowers please. Instead, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
